Descriptions to Copy
Big Sendies is a climbing tracker for Apple Watch and iPhone that logs every boulder and route with heart rate, height, and calories.
Big Sendies is a climbing logbook built for the gym and the crag. Start a session on your iPhone or Apple Watch and log each climb as you go: grade, style, falls, and sends. Heart rate, calories, and height are recorded for every route, sessions save to Apple Health as climbing workouts, and grade pyramids show your progress over time.
A standard climbing workout on Apple Watch keeps recording until you remember to pause it, so time spent resting, chatting, and walking between walls inflates the climbing time and the calorie count. Big Sendies only tracks while you're actually on the wall, one route at a time. On Apple Watch, climbers pick the style and grade, tap Start Route, and see a live timer with height, active calories, and heart rate while they climb. They log falls and mark the send from the wrist, and the phone doesn't need to be nearby.
Back on the iPhone, every session becomes a detailed logbook: a heart rate and height chart for each climb, grade pyramids for bouldering, top rope, and lead, and a route logbook that remembers every gym route and when it was first sent. Climbers can scan a gym's route card to fill in the route details, use standard or custom grade scales, earn achievements, and follow friends' sessions. Sessions save to Apple Health and count toward Activity rings, and Garmin users can import FIT files.
Big Sendies is free to download, with an optional Pro subscription for unlimited logging.
Key Features
- Apple Watch climbing tracker: time each route and see live heart rate, height, and calories, then log falls and sends from your wrist.
- Per-climb performance: a heart rate and height chart for every route, not just the session.
- Apple Health and Fitness: sessions save as climbing workouts and close your Activity rings.
- Grade pyramids and progress charts for bouldering, top rope, and lead.
- Route logbook: every gym route you've climbed, with send counts and when you first sent it.
- Route card scanner: snap the gym's route card to fill in name, grade, setter, set date, and hold color.
- Custom grade systems: YDS, French, UIAA, V-scale, Font, or your gym's own color scale.
- Friends and achievements: an activity feed of friends' sessions, plus milestones like climbing the height of Mount Fuji.
- Garmin FIT import for climbers who wear a Garmin.
The Story
Big Sendies was created by Brandon Wolf, a climber who wanted one quick, easy way to track his climbing progress and his workout data at the same time.
Apple Watch has a Climbing workout type, but it keeps recording until you remember to pause it. Leave it running between climbs and the watch thinks you climbed for far longer than you did, with a wildly inaccurate calorie count to match. Brandon wanted something that tracked only while he was actually climbing, and that let him pick the climb type and grade for each route. That way he could see how his grades were progressing, and make sure he wasn't skipping bouldering, so he'd stay a well-rounded climber.
Everything else grew from there: the route logbook, sharing and a friends list, scanning gym route tags, outdoor routes, and more. Big Sendies is a passion project, built and tested by a climber who uses it every session.
“I wanted my watch to track my climbing, not my resting. Big Sendies only counts the time you're actually on the wall, and it shows how your grades are moving across bouldering, top rope, and lead. It started as a tool for my own sessions, and it's grown into a passion project.”
